Dentist/General Dentistry
General dentists provide services that are related to the maintenance of oral hygiene and overall tooth health. They are your first line of defense against oral health issues. A general dentist works with you to develop a customized dental hygiene plan that will incorporate a dental examination, professional tooth cleaning, possible tooth scaling, X-rays and use of any other diagnostic equipment to prevent, uncover or treat problems as early as possible. Your dentist may incorporate a variety of restorative procedures that will help prevent decay or gum disease.

Taking care of your oral health is important during all stages of a person's life. Learning how to care for your mouth begins before a baby's teeth erupt and continues through your senior years.
Babies and Children ~ Parents should use a piece of disposable gauze to clean the baby's gums to remove any food that was not swallowed. Once teeth appear, use a soft brush and work gently to clean your baby's teeth. Do not put your baby to bed with a bottle as the liquid will sit on the teeth and cause tooth decay. Feed your baby a balanced diet and limit in between meal snacks. Encourage your child to drink water instead of sodas or unnatural fruit juices. Have your child brush with a child sized toothbrush at least twice a day for approximately two minutes and replace the brush when the bristles show signs of wear.
Teens ~ Teenage years often present temptations to drink excessive sodas and eat a lot of sweets which will create problems like cavities, tooth decay and discoloration. Teens should be warned about the effects that smoking and smokeless tobacco has on their smile and breath. Braces are often needed during this stage as crooked and crowded teeth are not just a cosmetic problem, but will allow bacteria to build up between teeth that are difficult or impossible to floss and brush correctly. A straight, beautiful smile will give your teen self-confidence.
Adults and Seniors ~ Exposure to beverages and food over long periods of time may have discolored teeth, however today's whitening and bleaching procedures can restore them back to their natural color. Seniors may experience tooth loss or teeth may become brittle over the years, and should speak with their dentists about replacement options that will keep their mouths healthy. Dental health has a connection to your overall well being ~ no matter what your age is, good oral hygiene is vitally important to your health.
